With over 1,100 miles of streams and 265 lakes, the Wind River Indian Reservations provides anglers and outdoor enthusiasts with a multitude of fishing and recreation experiences. Predominant fish species caught are brown, rainbow, brook, lake, and cutthroat trout. Some of the world’s finest golden trout fishing can be experienced in the remote back country.

Open Water Dates
Open waters of the Wind River Indian Reservation are determined each year by the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Tribes. The following bodies of water are open to fishing on designated dates with the appropriate permit.
January 1st – December 31st (Year-Round)
- North Fork of the Popo Agie River and Popo Agie River to Hudson
- Ray Lake
- Wind River Canyon
April 1st – September 30th
- Washakie Reservoir
- Wind River, excluding Wind River Canyon
- Downstream from the confluence of the Popo Agie and Little Wind River
- Bull Lake, below the dam
January 1st – September 30th
- Bull Lake (above the dam)
- Upper and Lower Dinwoody Lakes and Dinwoody Creek below Upper Dinwoody Lake to its confluence of the Wind River
June 1st – September 30th
- All roadless area lakes and streams
- Moccasin Lake
- Upper Bull Lake Creek above the inlet of the Lake
- South Fork of the Little Wind River (above Washakie Reservoir) above the second campground

Closed Areas
- Yantie or Yantic Lake is closed to General, Courtesy, Special, "For Fishing Only Card" and permit holders to fishing and trespassing.
- Dinwoody Creek above Upper Dinwoody Lake is closed to fishing.
- North Fork of Little Wind River is closed to fishing downstream from its confluence with Washakie Creek.
- Dinwoody Creek between the Lower and Upper Lakes is closed to fishing from April 1st to May 15th.
ALL WATERS NOT EXPRESSLY OPENED TO PERMIT FISHING TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC WILL BE CLOSED.

Yes, a fishing license is required for all non-members. Fishing permits are issued to the general public, not only to fish, but also to camp, hike, boat, and picnic in open or designated areas of the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Permit holders are required to purchase one Recreation Stamp per year for a $20 fee. The Recreation Stamp fee is used for improving, developing, and maintaining recreational facilities such as boat ramps, restroom facilities, picnic areas, etc.
